Coolant leak and pressure

Featured Replies

Hi I am a new member to this forum and am hoping for some guidance.

Have a 52 fabia 1.4mpi 8v. Suffering some coolant loss at present, seems to be coming out of the expansion tank cap and down the side of the tank channel. Also seems to be some pressure release when removing the cap. Yesterday was driven down motorway, this morning upon unscrewing the tank cap some of coolant was released out of cap under quite a bit of pressure. Any ideas what the cause is?

Many Thanks

Victor

Usually coolant loss is an indicator that system is being pressurised more than what the system can cope with, or designed for.
Something like a head gasket would be a pure guess to begin with, followed by stuck thermostat.
Ask a garage to pressurise and test the cooling system to eliminate a head gasket blown, or detect a leak somewhere?

Thanks for the reply, temperature guage on dash seems to be operating as normal, doesn't seem to be overheating. Hoping is not the head gasket. Seems to be getting pressurised from somewhere.
