Fabia VRs Intercooler & Gearbox issues

Featured Replies

Tearing my hair out. After 15,000 miles of problem free motoring I have had 2 probs at the same time. Any help or advice would be great from the wise people on here.

1. Intercooler has a massive oil leak so needs replacing. Money is V tight as I have just bought a house. My local parts supplier has quoted me £150 for a new one, but can anyone think of getting one cheaper? I thought local scrap yards but I am not sure which VW models are interchangeable with the VRs, can anyone help?

2. Grinding noise in 5th and then a whine from the gearbox above 40mph. I have spoke to a local transmission specialist in Sheffield (M&T) and they reckon it has been run low on oil and quoted me £750 for a rebuild. Which I declined. There are quite a few on ebay for the ASZ PD130 engine and I checked my Tranny code this morning and its HDS. Is Ebay the way to go? If so could I put a different coded box in my VRs?

Any help guys would be greatly appreciated.....

Intercooler from the FS section, they pop up all the time. I recently sold one for £55 posted :)

£750 for gearbox rebuild seems steep I just had my gearbox rebuilt new dmf new clutch gearbox oil etc for £957

your intercooler has an oil leak? define oil leak ..... all the fabias leak oil from the intercooler around the pipework ... but intercoolers dont actually contain oil the just cool air as it flows through .... the oil is from the cam breather that goes in to the pipework....

as for the gearbox have you tried topping up the oil level ?

Search elephant mod for keeping egr goo out of boost pipes

Redline shockproof gear oil is very good at ironing out gearbox issues, but quite expensive
