Think my steering rack is leaking. PAS reservoir was empty when I finally got to it (noticed when the steering became unresponsive at low speed). It feels like it could be nearly empty again so gonna have to whip half the car out to top it up....

That aside, I've been offered a steering rack from a 2007 VRS (23K miles) for £84 delivered. I can get a reconditioned rack for around £150 by trading mine in but at such a low mileage, I think I'm going to buy this used one.

My question, are all VRS steering racks the same? I've an ASZ 2004 and doing a search suggests it has the angle sensor which is removable from the wiring loom where as earlier models are a one-piece job. Before I spend £84, hoping someone can just reassure me!

Now I just need to hope the pump isn't damaged from running on next to no fluid...

I had to study this while ago when I needed to replace my rack so AFAIK there is 3 variations. Koyo rack with round sensor, fitted with only one screw. Two different TRW racks: The other has Valeo sensor and other has Hella sensor. Both fitted with two screws, top and bottom. That steering angle sensor is bit hard to see but helps to take wheel out and put front end to axle stands.
