should a stock blt pull on a stock asz?

hi guys..

as title suggests really.

had a play with a mate of mine and his is the blt and he didnt pull on me as i expected.

its known that the blt engine produced more than the asz..but is this really noticeable?

To many variables IMO.

Driver, gearchange, engine condition and life etc...

Wouldn't have thought there would be much in it tbh. Some blt engines have seen close to 150hp standard so you are right in what you say, however in the real world with different drivers I doubt you would see any diffence

My mapped vrs struggled to make much ground on a vrs se that was standard. Pulled very very slowly on it ( i had 173bhp)

So it must have been kicking out over 150bhp

Yeh i agree with the fact that there are too many variables.

I have just been thinking recently that my asz may be mapped and thought that as it performed similar to the blt engined vrs, that it may be.

O well i guess in most cases its down to driver, etc

Both standard, both driven exaclty the same then the BLT will probably pull a car length to 80.

The general feel is they have about 10 / 15 BHP more.

The problem is 99% of people over-rev these cars.

Mapped or standard you should never go over 4000 yet ever video you ever see people go past it.

So if you had a conservative driver in a standard BLT changing at 3900 and then somebody ragging a remapped to like 4500 the difference will be small.

Both to 3800 (or any revs) the remapped car will pull pretty hard on a standard car.

Its not all about the peak power as this is limited by the small turbo.

So peak there could be 15 BHP difference between BLT and then mapped, but at 3000 it could be 30+ more.

I never thought I'd say this, but Fred44 is spot on lol. It's too close to call with different drivers.

pretty sure my PD Ibiza pulls well all the way to the fuel cut, certainly wouldn't think changing gear at 3900rpm would be beneficial

I once spent ages woriking out all the calculations for gear change points, rate of acceleration at revs, ratios, losses etc

Even mapped (which has a stronger top end than standard) going beyond 4000 is negative in terms of optimum acceleration.

Indeed in the higher gears like 4th to 5th I seem to remember optimum was even lower at 3700 or something silly.

Different turbo then that changes of course. But the standard little turbo is done after 4k no matter what map you have.

Don't get me wrong it will rev to 5000 or whatever and even at 4500 will feel like its pulling. But its nowhere near optimum for acceleration.

A primative demo is go on the motorway and time in 5th (or 4th but 5th will show it more) 3500 to 4000 then 4000 to 4500.

At whaetver speed it did 4000 to 4500 change up a gear and do the same speed to speed.

Even in a higher gear the lower revs will yield surprising results.

For acceleration then yes you need to not rev past 4000 really. That's when the torque really drops off.

My DSG changes at 4000rpm with full throttle.
