Creaks & rattles.....

Featured Replies

Don't know why I've never bothered to question solutions to these before, but I have two really annoying sounds inside the car:

1) The drivers seat creaks like an absolute b*tch!! The smallest movement on the seat will result in said creak! I've just done a search and read that this is potentially due to some of the springs from the mechanisms underneath the seat? Can anyone confirm this? Do seats just unbolt straight off to remove? Don't know if the creak is leather related or not - do SE leather guys have this trouble?

2) The dreaded glovebox rattle! Anyone have a solution to this that doesn't involve me ripping it off the dash in a moment of furious rage?!!

Cheers!

I have both and if you ever find a solution to the seat PLEASE let me know.

For the glovebox I just have a cloth jammed in it all the time and it seems to stop it.

Worst reattles for me were the door cards (all of them!) so I took them off and replaced all the clips for the new design from the dealer. It didnt cost much and made it a lot better.

My seat creaks because its loose, might be worth checking. Thats my only creak in 170000 miles!

Its the springs that seem to creak in mine.

One thing I forot to add was if you have the seat height up one notch its not quite as bad.

Don't have the seat issue but had the glovebox one, just used some black foam draught excluder round it!

I have a rattle coming from the dash in the corner too which is now getting annoying, also a metal on metal type noise from the rear when going over small bumps/potholes sounds like its coming from rear drivers side seat. No idea what to do to resolve them (other than turning radio up :) )

There's two solutions to these inherrant problems and thankfully an easy fix. Just use the flow chart below as required.
