Gearbox Types

Featured Replies

Afternoon everyone. I have a couple questions that have been driving me round the bend for ages.

1. Is it correct that there are 3 different types of gearboxes on the Fabia vrs.

2. If there are 3 different types of boxes what is the difference i.e i know their geared differently as mine does 1800rpm in 6th at 70mph, three of my mates all do 2100rpm in 6th at 70mph. Theirs also appear to be more 'grunty' bottom end and in lower gears. One car i went in could drive quite happily at 50mph in 6th, mine has to be doing 70mph for me to even contemplate using 6th.

Because i have a long box i cannot go into any other gear unless i'm doing over 2k plus which makes 30mph zones a nightmare because 2nd is too much but 3rd isn't enough if you get my meaning.

As the gearing is different, how is it different as in, is 1st the same for all boxes, 6th is defiantly different and i think 2nd and 3rd are.

Any advice or suggestions welcome.

Can't answer your question but I have the same box as you. With 380ftlbs my engine loves the long box as 2600rpm is 100mph and bang on my max torque figure which makes for some snappy acceleration while cruising on the autobahns.

If I could take make the engine pull to the limiter in 6th it would be doing about 200 mph lol.

I've only managed 152 mph so far on the autobahn though.

Hahaha crist, dont reply with things like that the forum police will be out and shut it down :bandit: it actually is a serious question.

Thats a lot of torque though, how'd you manage that?

I have the same box as you Nathan, seriously doing my head in, that and I think it's nigh on ****** 5th squeaks as I let the clutch up and whines lol.

Castle Combe will probably kill it off in July :)

Seriously I've only maxed it out on my drives in Germany when visiting the nurburgring. In the UK I never exceed 1800rpm in 6th.

I have all the usual hybrid turbo, FMIC ,LSD sachs organic clutch ect ect for the 380ftlbs.

Well that's weird! Mines only doing it in 5th too, found selector fork specks in my box oil so assume its something to do with that!
