30 day/1,000 mile exchange

Featured Replies

Did anybody try to exchange in the past ?How does it work ?

Bought a used/approved car from a dealer in Nottinghamshire couple of weeks ago .Before I even left the town i noticed the DSG was very jerky but tought it was my driving ,two weeks later car ended up in Skoda garage in London ,3rd day they trying to diagnose the problem .

Do I have to echange with the dealer I bought from ?I don't really want to buy anything from them as they must have known about the problem and not really sure if I can ever drive another Skoda .

Would I stand any chance of getting my money back ?

Thinking of taking them to court under the Sale of Goods Act 1979

Thanks

I think you need to talk to them and get some adive from CAB before you think of going to court.

Have you spoke to the dealer in question.

After 3 days of testing the car has been diagnosed with faulty mechatronics unit (took me about 30mins of reading this forum to come up with same diagnose  )

Phoned the dealer but the person on the phone said it was to late and the manager wasn't in.

I'll get a friendl lawyer from my workplace to call them in the morning

I think you should keep calm and hold fire with the lawyer for now. Speak to the manager of the dealer. It's entirely possible they didn't know about the fault.

An approved used car from Skoda has a comprehensive warranty, so the dealer should without any quibble replace the mechatronics unit under the terms of the warranty.

I'd give them a chance to fix it under warranty before rejecting the car. If that's the only problem and they can fix it in a reasonable timescale and your otherwise happy with the car? I did contemplate rejecting my Octy when the high pressure fuel sensor failed a week after I go it, but it was replaced in less than 24 hours and the car hasn't skipped a beat since (touch wood).

Under the SOGA you have to give them a fair chance to fix it.

I think your mileage may vary but I have returned a car in the past. It was a Mercedes who have a very similar 30 day policy. Indeed, I actually walked away with a cheque.

Having bought Skoda approved Skoda myself' I would suggest you take the advice of others here and calm a little. Skoda have lots of cars which they oblige their dealers to shift on their behalf. I heard it was 20 cars per month. I think you will find the dealer will simply exchange yours for one of the many others in the pipe line. No big deal, Skoda will simply sell yours into the auctions.

The only issue will be whether they can find an exact match for what you bought. You may have to compromise or wait a while.
