AC & Engine Power

Featured Replies

Hello there!

I noticed (I think, I'm not sure yet, need to run more tests;)), in my Rapid that when the AC is turned on at the maximum speed the engine power, I mean like, the acceleration is affected. Is that normal? I just want to be sure if it's a usual thing or not! I know that the AC draws power from the engine right? But I didn't know it would affect the performance of the car.

Thank you!

Sounds normal. The AC pump is driven by the engine so therefore puts the engine under more load which robs a bit of power and uses more fuel.

More noticeable on smaller engines in my experience.

Ah ok. Thanks. Is not that bad, but is noticeable, mainly at lower RPM, that the engine goes less responsive, comparatively to what he got me used to, when the AC is off. It makes sense, I just want to be completely sure.

thank you very much!

Yes, this is normal. It is most noticeable below 1500RPM when you have no turbo boost, but once the turbo kicks in it's fine.

yeah, I just notice it more or less around those RPM. Anyway, the cheapest AC is to have the windows open, at least for urban drive:)

I'm relieved that this behaviour is expected then! Thank you all!
