Self Repairing Handbrake?

Featured Replies

My handbrake used to be really lose and took about 6 clicks before it worked not very well... wouldn't have passed mot.

In the last few weeks it has tightened suddenly and it passed mot today! I'm a little concerned because although it passed which is great, could it now be sticking?

Do I just jack the car up and see if the wheels spin freely?

Why has it fixed itself!?

if you pull the handbrake up suddenly / repeatedly they do adjust

foot on brake helps too !

More than likely your hand brake lever had jammed on the caliper. Its now unjammed itself and the cable has become taut again.

hmm Chris you don't think it's the other way round at the moment do you? maybe it's stuck on a bit at the moment and that's why it works better?

I changed my discs and pads on the rear and it went the other way!

From 4 clicks to about 8 :o

God knows why!!

Cleaned handbrake mechanism and fitted the sharan caliper springs!

Handbrake re-adjusted to 4 clicks! Awesome difference :)
