Wheel Cylinder Change

Featured Replies

Hi all,

In the process of changing the rear right wheel cylinder at the moment, and wondered whether there was an easier way to stop brake fluid from leaking out whilst swapping over? Normally, clamping the 'rubber' brake pipe would be an option, but in this instance the pipe is metal and thus cannot be clamped. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Finger from a rubber glove with a zip tie around it?

Or again finger off a rubber glove with a pointy rolled up bit of paper towel stuffed in the end?

Obviously you will have to be quick but should lose too much

Thanks for your suggestions, are there no other methods for this process or is losing brake fluid in this way just part of the job? No shut off valve or something or another location to clamp the piping?

Well there should be a flexi before the rigid pipe to allow for suspension flex its worth tracing the pipes back but you'll still loose fluid from where you clamp it to where it drains

Bleeding and re filling is an easy enough job

Pop the bleed nipple cover over the end of the pipe until you are ready to wind it back in.

Don't clamp the flexi, they are internally braided and you will damage it.
