Car seat removal

Featured Replies

Hi,

I want to remove Driver seat on Skoda Octavia and wash it properly. Kindly can someone guide me about it. I want to know about two things

1) How to remove it. Where are bolts. Unfortunately unable to find it. Kindly can some one refer to a video or post some pictures.

2) Possible consequences like seat heating or air bag problem.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Disconnect the battery (otherwise you may get the Airbag warning light on the dash… this will need VCDS or a dealer to clear the warning light)

Push the seats as far forward as they will go and then If you look at the rear of the seats you will a plastic trim that covers the the runners, these need to be removed (can’t remember if these just slide over the runner or if there is a torx screw under a little round plastic plug - been a few years since I did a MKI Octavia) then push the seats as far back as they will go and then look under the front of the seat you will see two 13mm nuts in the centre, these need to be removed, then give the seat a good firm push towards the rear of the car.

Lift the front of the seat and unplug all the wires, push the seat as far back as possible and remove it from the runners, lift it out of the car.

This shows the centre mounting point and the rear roller (inside the green cover)

Do you intend to remove the covers to wash them or are you cleaning on the seats?

If the former then I am sure someone will be along to tell you how to remove the covers, if the latter then clean them whilst fitted to the car.

The airbags are in the side bolsters so will be fine, the heated seat pads can be damaged by kneeling on the seats etc so be careful with them.

Thanks Gizmo for such a detailed reply. What will happen, if i will wash it thoroughly water after removing it from car.

If you dont remove the upholstery from the seat before washing it with a lot of water, rather than just normal upholstery cleaner and a wet vac,

the seat foam will soak the water, and take weeks to dry out properly, if ever, which can lead to mould growth if you're really unlucky...

also you risk any internal wiring getting wet and corroding or shorting out.

If wanting to do a proper cleaning, remove the covers and put them a washing machine, and let them dry for a couple of days.

did that with the seat squabs in my old car, car out good as new with some vanish stain remover in the mix.

removing the upholstery is a slow process though, and getting it back on takes a fair amount of work too... lot of bars to be pulled and twisted,

lots of them while not being able to see where your trying to put them.
