mk1 vrs problems?

Featured Replies

Hi

Im new here and new to the fabia, I just got one at what I thought was a great price looking around but there are a couple issues leaking rear brake hose which iv seen several times on golfs etc but the main thing is signs of over heating, iv driven the car and it drives fine but do they have overheating problems? head gasket? thermostat? im a mechanic so its not a major problem to sort but just wondered if there are any common faults with these to make things a little easier.

and any other things I should look out for?

cheers

Wouldn't say common, but a few on here have water leaks from the bottle which would suggest head gasket anyway.

all cooling systems should have pressure in them that's the idea of the pressure cap to raise the boiling point.

I haven't even started to look into it yet, I was just going to change the thermos stat as a matter of course and see what happens just didn't know if there were any common faults with them.

do all vrs have a trip? as I couldn't see one on mine just a clock I thought under the rev counter is this the trip also ? I really looked over the car for all of 5 mins when I got it and that's it haven't started looking at it yet.

Sounds like we're both in the same boat, never looked at mine when I bought it, I've got a thermostat on the top of my toolbox just changing other things first.

On the end of the right stalk you will find a little rocker switch, press that either way to see other things where the time is displayed.

ahh so it will be the same as my exs mk4 golf tdi then.

Im sure it will be ok ill prob start with a stat and a new pressure cap and see what happens.

what about springs on these? im not going to be doing a lot to this car as I have to many projects my Yamaha r6 turbo that iv built and my Honda civic turbo track car im building, but I need to get rid of the 4x4 look that seems to come as standard on them, whats the most you can go without killing the ride? I was looking at 60/40 but that's not for vrs so it will be more like 45/25 will this be ok?

On a budget, 30mm lowering springs will be the best option without killing the ride comfort.

Jom coilovers have a poor rep for comfort but are common as muck and can be had for around £180
