vRS grill badge removal

Featured Replies

Although it may sound a stupid question, how do you remove the vRS grill badge off a mk 1 Furby?

I'm disabled, (crumbling spine) and so find it difficult to spend more than a few minutes at a time under the bonnet.

Also, I presume the rear 'Fabian' and 'vRS' badges come off with boiling water, fishing line and lots of petrol/meths to remove the residue? ( thinking of replacing all badges with the mk2 versions of each).

Any advice gratefully accepted.

And intake it that the grill badge is a straight replacement?

It may take a fair bit of elbow grease to remove the rear residue as well but the results are great:

The front may need the blank plate behind the badge cutting off and then the new front badge is glued on:

Don't use boiling boiling water on the rear, I can't imagine that's good for the paint, just use some warming water or even a hair dryer will do the trick.

I used petrol to remove the residue.

As for the front badge it's easy as just giving it a good tug, well that's what I did :)

^^^As above, i used a hairdryer to warm the residue/badges.

Thanks guys; used a hand-held steamer last time I did this.

From what's been said, does the backing plate have to be removed, or will the new grill badge sit on it fairly close to its outline?

It depends how you want it. I wanted the new badge to sit flush on the grill, so removed the plastic from the old badge. I tried it with the plastic still in place and it wasn't that great looking, in my opinion.

Ok thanks for that, really appreciate it.

Does the plastic from the old badge come off easily or would I need a Dremmel or similar?

Andy

I had to cut mine and then carefully sand the bits left off. If you can Dremel it without wrecking the grill, might be a bit better.
