Car cutting out

Featured Replies

My Octy has had a recent trend to cut out and the clock to reset at the odd occasion when I turn off the engine or when she idles for a few minutes. The central locking locks all the doors at the same time..... Anyone have any ideas why this may happen? (The car is booked in for a service next tuesday anyway)

Bad or loose connection somewhere, definitely get it looked at as you wouldnt want that to happen during say a roundabout where you are waiting for a gap, with that lorry behind you...

I had a car which would cut out due to a flat spot at a certain rev point, and I nearly lost my life as it wouldnt restart. Bump-started it and floored it but I got the car sorted straight away that day.

Maybe I frightened the life out of the car last Saturday night as well Bernard  The look on your face :rofl: . Seriously though, sounds like a loose connection

Check the +ve and -ve connections on the battery itself. I had the same problem, and the -ve terminal on my battery was literally falling off. I forgot to tighten it when I disconnected it! lol

Could it have anything to do with the work on your P/S door ? Just a thought.

Don't think so. Its been a while since they last played with it. It may have a something to do with the fact that the location of the alarm, where the relay box has been removed and is hanging down (will be sorted on tuesday). But My first look will be the battery and its connections.

Sounds good  - should have remembered as I couldnt get my Rover 100 to start (new battery fitted only a week before that). Same problem, although not fallen off but it had worked loose nevertheless :(

Difference being that 'once on the move' it didnt go wrong and it did charge. Weird :)
