DNX520VBT SatNav unit

Featured Replies

I've posted this in the Kenwood and Pocket GPS forums with no successful outcome so I'm here as a last resort...

After hours and hours I finally managed to get the firmware to update to version 1.40

Two things:

1.  The Micro SD card reader doesn't seem to do anything i.e. the disk isn't read.  What is it supposed to be used for?

2.  I've tried to load speed camera data using POI Loader and have used - SD Micro Card - nothing happens, DVD - 'disk error' and USB - 'no media file'

Grateful for any help.

Regards

I managed to contact a very helpful Kenwood Navigation Customer Support Engineer who got it working.

For anyone interested, and I guess this only works for certain with a DNX520VBT, it's necessary to create the gpi file using POI Loader on a micro SD card NOT a USB stick. The POI loader will create a folder and sub folder with a file named garmin.gpi it's then necessary to rename the file to poi.gpi and the full path is Garmin/POI/poi.gpi It's essential that the folders and file are spelt in upper and lower case exactly as shown.

Also in case you didn't know the SD card reader is only for navigation related things such as map updates, navigation software updates and custom POIs - or so I'm told although other forum users seem to imply it can be used to load other files but I wouldn't bother trying as you could waste a lifetime experimenting and there's so much else to do instead!

Hope this helps someone - anyone...

There's some useful threads on this stereo in the ICE section if you're needing any further advice and I've found this webpage very handy:

You are correct that the micro SD card slot can only be used for navigation, same as the mini-USB port annoyingly.  The unit seems a bit bolted together so you have the standard stereo, the Parrot BT unit and the Garmin unit which don't really integrate as you'd think as to update the firmware on each of them you need a CD for the main unit, over Bluetooth for the BT unit and micro SD card for the maps.  I was disappointed I couldn't use the micro sd card for music but got a tiny USB drive instead which works well:
