Adding DAB

Featured Replies

How do you get DAB in the car?! Is it something that can be added or is it a new unit?!?

Sorry if this has been asked before or recently I'm being proper lazy and just starting a new thread!! I await the abuse!! ????

You buy a DAB headunit or an add on box like Auto DAB

My local Skoda dealer has mentioned a promotion on this bit of kit if I wanted to improve my current radio options - around £250 fitted. Has a USB port which would be handy (I was thinking about it as an option since the new Kenwood satnav unit was a disaster)

It gets decent reviews (as do other similar set ups) and should be a reasonably easy/tidy install but DAB reception can be just as patchy as FM depending on where you live and it might mean another (albeit discreet) aerial stuck somewhere - whether that would annoy you?

Or better still, if you know anyone who has a DAB radio, just ask how good it is!

I fitted a VW RCD 310 DAB to my Octavia, with an external glass-mount aerial. £170 for the head unit, £20 for the aerial, about half an hour to install (most of which was running the aerial cable from the boot to the dash.

Cheers for the replies, seems more expensive & possibly griefy (terrible at DIY stuff) than I thought! Maybe back to the drawing board for a little while then!!

Cheers again though!!

Ah, the cable run through the car is a doddle (seriously). Whereabouts in Kent are you?

Just outside Sevenoaks

I'm in Medway at the weekends and Redhill during the week. Be happy to help with the install if you want. :) :)

That is a good price. At GTI international yesterday, Listers VW from Leamington had sent a small parts team out, who were selling a brand new one for £50. Might be worth a call.

That is an excellent price!

I know -I've just bought one to go in to my mum's Fabia.

While on the subject -I finally found the part number for the aerial base for the GPS/DAB/telephoneand FM/AM:

6R0 035 501 D

I have ordered one and will post my findings as to if it represents a worthwhile upgrade over my current stick on windscreen aerial

j0hn -was that definitely the DAB version? that price would be about right for the non DAB one -if it was the DAB one I'd have bitten their hand off.
