Recommended towbar fitter near Maidstone?

Featured Replies

Hi can anyone recommend a towbar fitter that knows what they are doing in the Maidstone area?

First port of call quoted £500 and started talking about scotch lock connectors :wonder: .  They had no idea about recoding.

Thanks

bb

If they intend to use scotchlocks then I doubt coding will do anything.

I can code the car if you get stuck and get the OE loom fitted.

If they just scothlock on to the existing wiring, does that cause problems with the fault reporting stuff?

Yes, because the CanBus system doesn't recognise the new wiring.

It potentially means that you will never be able to turn off the bulb failure system, and it can, in a worst-case scenario, result in the wiring module failing which can be VERY expensive to replace.

It really is not worth the risk.

The correct towing loom is not that expensive, and certainly cheaper than invalidating your warranty, which is what will happen if scotchblocks are used.

And to add, which wires are they going to "clip" to? If you look at the wiring for the rear lamp, for example, there isn't neccesarily one wire for each function!

Thanks. Will continue to search for someone to do it properly.

worth a call to beadles skoda at Aylesford, I was quoted £350-£500 for my fabia Greenline when I bought it, I am hopefully looking to get it done later this year when I have some spare cash

If I remember right it was £350 for a fixed, or £500 for a detachable towbar, but it was a year ago

worth a call, you can always say no thanks if the price is not right

I was quoted £354 plus vat for a detachable westphalia 8pin. This was using their electrics to the front not skoda, this would add £70 to the price.
