Genuine parts or not?

Featured Replies

Hi just been quoted £315 for cambelt and water pump on my 2005 fabia vrs they said that the parts are not genuine parts should I ask them to do it with genuine parts and pay the extra or is it not worth it

You could get it done with genuine parts at a dealer for that money.

I know where I'd be going.

+1 for dealer dm keith in leeds were doing it for £300 all in a few months ago and youll probs get a courtesy car thrown in too if you ask

Tried my local skoda dealer said £400 just didn't know if genuine parts over motor factor parts were worth it or not

Check if your Skoda dealer is a participating dealer in Skoda's National Pricing.

P.S. Just checked for you. Listers Skoda ( Coventry) and Farmers Skoda (Leicester) are on the list so should do a cambelt change for £299, albeit a water pump change is another £100.

P.P.S. Parts used by the dealer come with a 2 year warranty.

£299 for a genuine cambelt from our local dealer.

Mind you it does say plus £100 for water pump but I'd bet you can get them to drop that for a price match.

That's great! Never knew about that so thanks DGW. Though £100 for the waterpump is a bit excessive seeing as they can access it at the same time :(

The £100 includes coolant, the price of the water pump and the increase in labour time to cover changing the pump itself and a coolant drain, refil and bleed.

ah, yeah, forgot about the coolant etc :D

2 year warranty on genuine parts.  We recently did a cam belt on a 2.0 TDi using all genuine parts, the warranty was quite handy after the £2 tensioner stud broke, it paid out for a new engine.

I went to the 1 on Coventry road Bedworth they said that's national price £399 for cambelt and water pump then rang local garage they said £315 but wasn't genuine parts like I said just didn't know if it was worth the extra £85 for genuine parts or not. Always used what ever was cheapest in the past but never had a car really worth looking after.

id use non genuine parts but not at that price. should be around the £200 mark for a decent indy using quality parts (gates, contitech etc)

what if you bought the parts and got a quote for labour, try TPS, you know parts are geniune. worth a try.
