pd170 issues

Featured Replies

Done some reading and i think it might be a sticky flap in the inlet manifold.

Occasional random stalling at junctions, bogging down, loss in power at low revs

Sound like the flap?

Presumably if the anti shudder valve is sticking it will have stored a fault code. Have you had the car scanned?

I had it scanned a few weeks ago when it was doing it and there were no faults logged. I can get it scanned again soon and see if anything has changed.

There is also an output test in VCDS to test if the flap is working. I know this as I accidentally stopped the engine when I was messing with the flap output test!

i'll see if my mate can find that on vcds next time i see him. Where abouts is it on there?

I think it's in 01-Engine, then output tests-03.

There are quite a few tests listed, one of them should be intake manifold flap.

cheers, i'll see what it comes up with.

If it is clogged/stuck can they be cleaned or is it best replacing them? (anti shudder valve that is)

The PD170 does have additional flaps in the inlet manifold, separate to the anti-shudder flap, which can give trouble too. Something else to check perhaps.

thats a large build up! Did you have similar issues as i've been having?

It never cut out put power serges and lumpy idle.

  • Author

my idle is fine, sits at 600rpm in all conditions

How many miles have you done?

How often (if at all) do you see the DPF light?

Elephant mod should stop that reoccurring.

76k

DPF light has been on a few times, i'd say something like once a month

my lights never been on, injector recall was done 1k ago.

symptoms where, lumpy idle when hot sometimes, jerky at low rpm when warming up, and a kind of serging when driving at fixed throttle position etc.

done 100 ish miles since cleaning out at it drives like a new car!

One thing i've noticed recently is im not getting much power till over 2k. Foot down and basically nothing till 2.5k then it all comes in one big go.

I know the PD engine is supposed to be more like that but this is literally nothing below 2-2.5k. Possibly EGR valve a culprit again?

Hmmm, mine started doing this just before I sold it, very different to the normal 'PD punch'.

yea, its certainly different. Not sure what It could be tbh
