not sure if over boosting

Featured Replies

Hi guys had this issue for a while now. From cold start and leaving the engine to idle, within a couple of minutes the turbo will give a slight whisle and will get progressively louder. But you can lighty blip the throttle to get rid of it. And also it whistles wen i plant it. So i put it on my mates vadcom. Not faults come up. But found that we i plant it i will hit 2bar of boost. I personally think its to much. Ive been told by sum ppl that my turbo is on its way out and also been told im over boosting. Any ideas lads

The whistle after a few minutes at idle is the egr calve iirc, they all do it. Your turbo isn't doing anything at idle so it won't make any noises.

Unless the noise is quite pronounced and almost like a police siren noise I'd hazard a guess the whistle when you boot it is just the normal turbo whistle.

Lastly 2 bar of boost, I think you need to take nearly 1 bar away from the figure on vagcom to compensate for atmospheric pressure, I'd suggest if it was hitting that much it'd have popped ages ago.

I have taken the 1bar away and leaves me with 1.976 bar. What would be the first thing to look at to fix this problem

log specified vs actual boost and post the tables / graphs up

4th gear from 1500rpm to redline

I'm assuming the car is mapped?

Nope

As Jase says log group 11 from 2k to redline. This will should requested vs actual boost.

Could be sticky vanes, vacuum issue, dodgy MAP sensor.
