Air con not cooling

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a problem with our octavia tdi climatronic air con. The compressor clutch is not operating.

I have done the following

Regas

Vag com reports only an intermitant fault on v71 recirc air flap

Climatronic self test reports the same.

The compressor clutch reads 3 ohms

The connector reads 3 ish volts with the aircon on.

Fuse 16 is fine

Aircon fan runs.

The compressor turns freely by hand.

Any ideas where to go next. Can the g65 presure sensor go faulty and not show a fault on vag or self test?

Have you checked the wiring to the clutch?  It can become brittle and break with age - there is a connector/junction near to the alternator, iirc.

If you apply +12v across the clutch does it engage?  Try direct on the clutch and further up the loom.

Will be having another look tomorrow. Will try that first

The clutch does not engage with 12v but neither does it get 12v when the engine is on and AC engaged.the clutch has got continuity what should the resistance be? Is it possible to replace just the clutch?

Do both rad fans come on when the A/C is turned on?   Have a search on here, this problem (or similar) is quite common - relays under the battery tray or something like that comes to mind...
