6 Monthly Running Cost Update

Featured Replies

As some of you may know from the Project Journals section I've been keeping a diary of my car - and if you didn't know it's well worth a read over here - and decided to do an update of everything so far.

I've seen other thread detailing costs but not really paid attention however now it's my own car - and more importantly my own money! - it makes for scary reading

Obviously none of this is going to be an exact science as i'm sure there are costs i've forgotten and track work may have caused issues (such as turbo failure) that may not have come up if i was boring dull sensible but here goes:

The cars odometer sits on 129880

and at the start of the year it was on 126300

so i've done 3580 miles in the last 6 and a bit months

or approx 13p per mile

giving a average MPG of 46.8

Obviosuly not tracking any other car i dunno how these fgures compare to other vehicles but they seem ok to me!

They could have been much smaller if I hadn't had such large repair bills for a turbo and suspension but given the car is almost 130,000 miles and 9 years old to only have done these things the one i see as a blessing.

Some scary math when you start applying those "per miles" figures to stuff.

Even without all the superfluous costs just maintenance and fuel means my 14 mile daily commute costs me £4.48 per day JUST TO GET TO WORK!

It's even worse when you consider that I've not included insurance or tax in the figures!!

If you do that it comes out nearer 48p per mile! or near £7 a day just to get to and from work!

wowzers!

Quite interesting seeing the figures :)

Still got to be cheaper than most forms of public transport and a heck of a lot more fun lol :D

Boris Johnson mugs me for nearly that much everyday on the tube. Would rather drive, it smells better has a/c and I can sing/shout as loud as I want!!!!!

I've actually made a hash and added the entire cost of tax and insurance to my 6 month figures where as it should obviously be half.

Will still be over a fiver a day to get to and from work though.

As said theres no alternaive though
