colour change for skoda fun?

Featured Replies

HI GUYS, I WAS THINKING OF RE-PAINTING MY SKUD! AS I CALL HER, SHE'S GETTING A BIT TIRED AND NEEDS A RE-VAMP, BUT THE PAINT I WANT TO USE IS A RAL COLOUR, COS I CAN GET IT CHEAP, AND IME OK AT SPRAYING CELLULLOSE PAINT, BUT MY QUESTION IS WHAT IS THE NEAREST COLOUR PAINT THAT THEY SELL ON EBAY, FOR THE BODY AND THE PLASTIC TRIMS, THE PAINT CODE IS 6150 PLASTIC AND 6518 FOR BODY, BOTH THESE COLOURS ARE UNAVAILABLE , SO I WAS HOPING TO MATCH THEM UP WITH SOME ALTERNATIVES, THEY HAVE LOTS OF RAL YELLOW ON THE BAY AND I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS DONE THIS, THANKS IN ADVANCE john.

Hi John & nice to hear from a fellow Fun owner not a million miles away!

I can still get 6150 from a local paint supplier and used to be able to also get hold of 6518 until fairly recently. The paint guys told me that 9124 is now the equivalent for the main bodywork & it's this I've been using for the last two batches. It's a very close match but after 14 years of uv exposure it's always difficult to blend the colour back in.

I've got some small areas in primer ready to paint back in but it's more fiddly when trying to apply painting to contained areas rather than half/full panels.

I can let you have the details of the paint supplier down this way if interested.

Rob ;)

Hi Rob, thanks for the info, I am going to paint the whole car, so should not have too many problems matching panels, Its just that the last time I used lacquer, I had a few probs,  I used a German paint called  glasurit , 2 part, and I nearly coughed for a week, I think you had to have a special mask.... so I thought that I might do it in cellulose , its a bit more idiot proof, still if I cant get it or rather match it, then I would like your mans details  thanks for your help  john.

No worries mate. The local guys I've used for a while are Panel n Paint - 01303 263136. Over the years I've built a good relationship with them & they've done the odd bit of bodywork on mine. I'm intrigued to hear you've owned 4 previously & I'd be happy to swing over your way for a chat if you ever fancy meeting up. :)

I've had  one from Newcastle, thought it looked good in the add, but turned out to be a write off,  it had a warning light on,all the time, I had it checked and it was an airbag fault, ... I couldn't stop it   sorry but in the end I took out the bulb,  all the wiring had been eaten by rats, and had numerous other faults, next!!!,   I never lean, next one was cheap   about 700 quid  it had been repainted and was really bright yellow, it had been converted to gas, but wasn't working'... but it did  had  some thing that I have never seen before, the rear wheel arch turrets had been fitted with a very thick plate of steel, the previous owner said that it had been done at the factory, but I don't know, any how that one got sold   130'000 miles,   chapter two  later, im'e off out

Ordered the paint, correct colours I might add, I'me going to use acrylic paint, never used it before, but i'll give it a go, I've repaired the front bumper, and primed it and ill start next week on the colour, ime spraying it a couple of panels at a time, cos my compressor is old and slow, so it will take me ages to finish,  While you here Rob, are there any links to re-welding the rear suspension tops, mine are not bad ,  but I may reweld them before spraying in the back,, thanks  John

Is this a wind up? You are going to use acrylic paint... Haha.. Whatever next

Hi John,

I had some arch work done at the local guys detailed in my above post but that was some time ago. Since then it's all been diy!

Best of luck with your works.

To Teflon Tom, I may use hammerite next, ,

Actually did see a guy on youtube, paint a car wing with the American version of hammerite,    Wow , what a finish he got!  used a hair dryer and roller,

I used Hammerite's garage door paint on a Metro with a gloss roller and got a reasonable finish. It stays tacky too long so stuff lands in it, you're unlikely to be using a spray booth after all. I used yacht paint once too and got a brilliant result with that but really put the work in - lots of prep, lots of thin coats, all removable panels done in the house and only the shell in the garage etc. Those were the days

Ah the good old days, motorcycle engine on the kitchen table, tripe and onions bubbling on the stove, doing errands for everyone in the street for a three penny bit,  getting the cane at school........,  where have they gone!
