Side rub strip removal

Featured Replies

Hi guys, anyone got any good (safe) methods for removing the rub strips from the doors?

I'm figuring a heat gun and some patients?

Unless you have any better ideas?

Thanks,mark....

I myself know how boring it can be waiting in the doctors. So what a brilliant idea getting some patients to help !

Hahahahahaaaaa,just noticed the typo!

Might have to rely on patience instead!

I actually prefer the strips colour codes to the car. Did the bump strips when I had my VRS, but sold it before I got around to the door strips. There is a guide to removal on the forum somewhere so have a search around but from memory it's a process where patience is needed in abundance.

If i recall correctly theres a guide which involved hot water, lots of patience, praying the paint hasnt blistered uderneath,

and a cork/rubber drill bit of some kind for taking off the remaining adhesive...

I'm torn between removal and colour matching...

I would leave them on, plain and simple and keep them topped up with tyre gel.  Doesnt look right when theyve been removed as theres a recess.

The black trims always remind of the VW base models. On a black VRS they blend in nicely when kept in good nick, but on the silver, red, & yellow it only works for me if the alloys are black too.

Thanks guys,I found the guide in the end!

Took me 2 hrs to find it though....

I could have done it in that time....

I need to remove them to replace them with new ones that can be painted...

According to the Skoda dealers the originals can't be painted due to them

Being infused with an oil which helps them stay black...

The paintable ones have primer on them apparently?

Thats funny mine were grey!! I got fed up of dressing the damn things every few weeks.

As long as you prep them well, & use materials from a proper trade paint supplier the strips come up nice. My bumper strips were fine months later when I sold the car.
