83'000 miles and service time

Featured Replies

Been quoted £350 for timing, waterpump and full service from local independent, sounds reasonable to me.

What's the consensus? Too much? Too cheap? Just right?

Well I paid pretty much that for just cambelt and cam sensor a few years back (before I found the forum)...and that was on mates rates!

That's a good price

When was your last cambelt change??

I'm currently on 82k, next service is 85k but i'm going to get it done a little earlier, hopefully some time this month but belt don't need changing yet

From the records I have it was last changed at 40'000 miles and I believe it needs doing every 40'000 miles.

I'm led to believe it's every 60,000 miles but if your paranoid then go for it.My first was on 65,000

ASZ and BLT are 80k for the cambelt.

40, 60, 80!!!!!???????

Only 7 posts down and 3 different numbers!

Confusing much.

Take it from a former Skoda technician who used to see the service sheets and ELSA daily.

People get it done around about 60,000 which is just under recommended.Piece of mind and all that.

My last cambelt change was at 42k, going to service soon at around 84-85k so won't bother getting it done yet.

I will be doing less miles next year so my next service will probably be when i'm just over 90k, i'll get the belt and pump done then.

I work at a skoda dealer as a service advisor and its 60k :)

When mine was changed the garage told me it was still in good nick at 65k. End of the day it's your prerogative

74k so would normally fall into the 80k service if not brought in early.

Having spent the last 30 mins on google I am none the wiser.

I have read that some time in 2005 VAG UK sent out a bulletin changing the interval from 4 years/60'000 to 4 years/40'000

but in other territories it has remained 4 years/60'000

Is anyone aware of any tell tale signs or noises that are associated with a worn belt/tensioners?

Which I find that information doubtful as in 2005 the four year hadn't been brought in as far as I remember.

It was from a thread on Honest John :/

I am aware not to believe what you read on the internet and it's quite a chunk of money but......

The receipt I have for the cambelt change at 40'000 is handwritten and from an independent and I plan on running the car for another 2/3 years at least.

I only cover approx <6000 miles a year so if the change at 40'000 is correct I should be ok but if not I run the risk of it dying.

Unless you have it cast iron by way of a full bill and receipt, I always treat it that it hasn't been done, and get it done straight away. At least you have several years/000's of peace of mind thereafter.....

I suppose I could phone em but it is 4 years ago so that would mean it needs doing?

Yep, change at four years.
