Starter motor gone?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, recently my car has been Strugglinf to start sometimes, one day it will be fine but some days it just won't start, sounds as if the battery is dead but I had the battery tested and its showing there is plenty of power left in it, any ideas? It's a vRS if that matters, Thanks

when it struggles to start cant you bridge the wires out across the starter ...  this will prove whether its a starter or wireing fault

what do you mean mate?

well your starter has a constant live and a switched live if the starters playing up and you use a bit of wire or a screw driver to bridge the constant live on to the switched live (with the ignition on) the engine will start ( may cause a few sparks) if you do this and the starter seems fine its a wireing fault / bad connection ..... if you do this and theres no difference it is most likely a starter fault

Is it worse when the engine is already hot compared to when it is cold?

yes it's only when I've been driving for an hour or so

I believe that when the engine is warm the ECU only injects fuel when the is doing 250rpm, so if the battery is a bit tired or the starter is on its way out you will notice it when starting from warm. I would try a new battery first.

i had the battery tested mate and it was showing it still had plenty of life left in it, would this point to the starter motor then

Trying another battery is easier than another starter.
