May be a stupid question, but.............

 

Got first little nipper on the way soon and after convincing myself it was still sensible to have gone for the hatch and not the estate, I have been looking at some roof bar/box options in case they are needed in a few months time. Wouldn't plan to have them permanently on the car, but for those occasional camping or long weekends away they would come in handy.

 

However, went out to the car to see how the roof bars mount to the roof, expecting to see the usual T-channel or slots with seals in place, but have got nothing on my roof at all apart from some shallow grooves along the length of each side of the roof panel.

 

Can anyone confirm if this is the norm, or am I missing some roof channels for bars as I have a sunroof?? (or some bizarre skoda policy to not allow roof mounted stuff when there is a sunroof fitted).

I don't have a sunroof but I think it will be the same, anyway...

 

The roof bar feet you need go around the edge of the roof and into the gap between the door frame and the roof.  Mine have a little piece of metal on them and points into a ~5mm hole, one in each doorway.

 

They're strong - had three Downhill mountain bikes up there no problems.

Sweet, thanks, that makes sense then! Seen some official skoda ones for about 150notes so may well go for them.

Do you happen to know if they are relatively quick and easy to fit and remove??
