Downpipe and cat removal fuel consumption

Featured Replies

Just ordered a downpipe for the VRS just wondering if i should get the cat removed with it and then map it. Is it worth taking the cat out too? How badly will this effect gas milage and does it throw a check?

The down pipe on a mk1 vrs has the cat built into it. Which down pipe did you order?

Ive got a downpipe/decat and its awesome , great sound to . Ive had it mapped out with my stage 2 and i get more miles to the gallon . On a 13 mile trip to work im getting 37mpg and on the motorway cruising at 80mph im getting just over 41mpg . Mine turned the engine management light on every other 100 miles or so before it was mapped out

Depends what you have ordered buddy. As mentioned the downpipe and cat on a std VRS are in one piece. If you have a std one better off getting a decat / downpipe one piece that is meant for the job.

You should see no real fuel change unless you like the new released power a decat gives and thus plant your foot down heavier

I don't see any real fuel difference

The only downside to the decat is the fire spitting. Kinda hard to the hide the fact its on there when that happens.

Downpipe with decat. It's the right one.

Thanks DBP just have to fit now with a set silicone pipe upgrade should be painful but worth a few extra bhp.

With this kit I struggled to get it to hold tight on the original exhaust clamp. I would STRONGLY suggest buying a new one before it turns up/you get cracking on it.

I might get a garage to do it if its tricky the exhaust clamp is already loose at the minute the standard exhaust seems to move around a lot.

Good to see the other lads arnt loosing any mpg from the decat i would have thought it would have effected economy.

I have the exact same one. You may need to get a lambda fooler as the angle the lambda sensor comes out at points straight towards the ground pretty much so I recommend a right angle one.

I've one fitted and I've had no engine light on. It does pop and flame a bit when giving it some stick.

I have fitted a few of these now and quite easy if you can get car high enough.

Sent from my Samsung S3

I used my two post ramp at work with plenty of tuneap releasing fluid. Nice simple job

Clarkyzs thanks will fit it as soon as the silicone pipes arrive will see how i get on.

Just noticed a bit of oil near the intercooler any idea what it might be? Turbo? Not sure she is boosting properly ran the vrs against my mates 95 2.0 Hyundai coupe and really struggled to make ground on it! Just thinking now the turbo is leaking oil! No codes on the vag tester its really strange!

You may have a slight boost leak on the hoses connecting to the intercooler or an actual leaky intercooler it's self. Shouldn't be any oil on the outside of anything!! You will get slight amount of oil in the intake due to the breather system as quite a few folks fit oil catch cans to stop it happening.

The 2.0 coupe has 135bhp ish and is a near second slower to 60. You should of breezed past it in a straight line. I beat (on my private track) a 13 plate Suzuki swift sport which is around the same power wise as the coupe and I eased past him and my car only has a standard map.

I think you should get it scanned for faults and checked over for leaks once you have your silicone hoses on.

yep defintely a problem there, should be leaving him behind quite easily i would have though!

Will get it checked when i have everything on. I only noticed the oil when i changed the SAI pump it was all around the cowling so its coming from somewhere! There is still a secondary air system fault even with the second hand SAI pump on.
