Earth fault - Engine light & Glow Plug flashing?

Featured Replies

Had the above two lights on for a while, and took it in to a garage to get ti checked out. They told me wit was due to an earthing fault, but as the car was running perfectly fine (140k miles..) it isn't worth the hassle to sort it. They recommended a specialist auto electrician as they weren't equipped to look into it in detail.

As a matter of pride I would like to try and remove these lights, so was wondering if anyone could suggest a place to start looking?

Cheers

I think the first place would to get a VCDS scan if not done already?  While it might not give an accurate error it would probably be a good starting point.

I did have problems last year with the coil light flashing sometimes on startup and someone had experienced the same fault and found it was an earthing problem, this is what they replied when I asked about it:

I managed to get rid of this problem by cleaning all of the earths, six or seven i think in total, most are on the chassis legs, 1 on gearbox and 1 below passenger scuttle panel. Just took them off, lightly cleaned with light grade sand paper, put back on

The error has a different cause in my case so I don't know if that's any help at all.

Hmm, Ok I'll have to copy the scan report and post it here to see if it sheds any further light on the issue. I don't like the car having faults, especially so many of them!
