Occasionally, I used to have difficulties when selecting 1st gear and seldom reverse, but whatever it was it used to solve itself quite easy.

Yesterday I had a short trip, about 10 miles and everything was perfect.

Later on when I wanted to go to work, the car started to refuse engaging into 1st gear. It feels like the gear stick refuses to go into 1st gear.

And this happens regardless of the engine is switched on or off and I had to set off in 2nd.

Any idea what might be?

Think you might need to reset the gear linkages, i sometimes go for 3rd and it can try go into 1st. Need to do this on mine

not sure if this is the same gearbox thats in yours, but its the same for the 6 speed too, the locking lever is down towards the right of the linkages and think you push it in rather then turn it
