DSG, car creeps on startup

This is the VRS diesel, 6 speed.  On startup, with Park selected, the car creeps forward slightly.  I've checked this in neutral also and the same thing happens.

So, how does the Park mechanism work?  I thought that it would be a Pawl and Detent to lock the transmission, but that doesn't account for the movement.

As for Neutral, presumably this might be oil drag in the transmission.

Any thoughts, please?

Mine (vRS diesel DSG) has no creep in Park or Neutral.  Like you I though that Park was a mechanical lock.

 

The Owners Manual states:

 

"It is sufficient to engage selector lever position P when parking on a flat surface. When
parking on a slope you should first apply the handbrake firmly and then move the
selector lever into position P. This is to ensure that there is no excessive pressure acting
on the lock mechanism and that it is easier to subsequently move the selector lever out
of position P."

 

This seems to indicate that there is a lock mechanism on Park.

I have has this on my DSG, but only in very low ambient temperatures.....-5c or below. I researched this and found a lot of owners in colder climates report this routinely. I always have the handbrake on, so it really a sensation of pulling rather than creep for me. 

 

The creep I experienced was due to high transmission viscosity in cold temperatures, and is apparently normal. Why it is happening to you at this time of year, I'm not sure.

Well, I can only come up with oil drag as an explanation.  Today, I started in Neutral and the car moved, (ambient air above 25 degrees). The other thing is, that this car has the oil-filled clutch, so there may be drag from that.  Of course, what I don't know is whether the clutch is disengaged to begin with.  If it was a manual transmission, I would have my foot on the clutch so as to disonnect the transmission (even in neutral of course) so as to reduce drag.

I'm due to go and get a new boot badge next week, as this one has got the white worm. I asked the bloke at the dealers if they had a diagram of the transmission for me to look at when I go in, but surprisingly they don't have one.  In my misspent youth, -1950s to early 60s -  I completed an MV Technician Apprenticeship at a Ford dealership and even got the M.I.M.I. qualification.  So it is somewhat irresistible to ask such technical questions at the Stealers. :giggle: :giggle:

However, thanks for your responses to what is actually a straight question.

I mentioned this to my Skoda independant tech and he said that the box would be in gear when parked.  I've tried stopping the engine with the selector in neutral, then pushing into Park so I can get the key out. That has made a difference when I restart. 

So, I must conclude 1) Oil drag in the wet clutch and the gearbox.  2) The clutch is only disengaged (and that only partially) once the engine is started and idling.
