Looks like air vents to me.

These can be pressed by feet and return to the position on the photo on releasing.

Definitely the rear air vents for heating. Fig. 89 p. 87 in the English pdf manual.

Metal you say ?! Mine are plastic ! Hope they're strong and elastic enough not to get damaged by rear passenger's feet.

Keep the mats under these vents.

 

edit: I can see they're labeled as no 7 in the picture but no mention of them in the text.
