Engine management fault

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've been having a few problems with my engine management system on my Fabia 1.4 comfort. After having the local dealership plug it into the diagnostic machine they've told me that it's a "sporadic fault with the evaporative emission system". They also claim not to have seen this problem before, and are quoting

How long have you had the car for?

I bought the car from my partner's Granddad in February. He had the car for 4 years before that (only did about 3k per year). The problems started a couple of months ago, and culminated in a breakdown in heavy traffic last week!

Oh ****....that's not good news.

You gotta get it repaired and pay for it man. My friend has a Fabia 1.4 16V which had a few engine management problems, but he got that sorted before the warranty voided...

Seems to be mostly labour. They are talking about having to take out seats & carpets to get to something (My personal technical knowledge runs out at this point, hence the plea for advice!)

Well, by my understanding, the "evaporative emissions system" is something which controls the, er, emission of fuel vapour from the fuel tank, etc.

So I'm not really sure why they'd need to take out seats and carpets, as one would hope that the fuel system isn't inside the cabin! That said, the seats and carpets can be removed in about 20 minutes... :D

I'm sure one of the techies will be along over the next couple of days to shed some more light on the matter. :)

Rob.
