Yeti Air Con

Featured Replies

Yeti air con packed up on Monday on the hottest day after two years and regularly put on the the unit every week to check it out and run up the system.Checked the cooling rad at the bottom of the car and no big stones smashed into the delicate parts that I could see as the Yeti was off on its hols for a few weeks.

Just a faint rustling sound from the top vents when the blower was put on 1-2 bars but just hot air coming out ? Had noticed the black coating on the cooling rad at the bottom was falling off and if you rubbed your finger it just flaked away.

Booked the car under warranty  at our Norwich dealer for Friday and they said it would cost £49 to fill the system if needed. Pointed out that surely it should last 2 years of little use. Try selling all the domestic  fridge/freezers users on the planet that they have to re charge thier compressors every 2 years and see how the trading standards get swamped let alone fit for purpose?

Apparently the condenser unit at the bottom is known to badly corrode in the winter salt and then start a very small leak stopping the air con. But the helpful mechanic filled up the system and hopefully it might run for a week ot two, hopefully when we get back a new condenser will be fitted which takes at least three hours.

Helpful informative staff who managed to keep happy on a stifling hot Friday afternoon with a unhappy Yeti owner. Well done.

Looks like a real pain in the neck for the mechanic to get apart and wonder how long the replacement one lasts in European winters with salt being blasted straight into the front low down like a scoop. Not a job I would want to do.

One nearly thinks a winter flap put down there to try and cut down the constant grit blasting taking place on the condenser?

If you keep your Yeti for many years then it does look like a real expensive problem.

Mine is 3 years old and is working perfectly.

Who says the condensor unit is known to corrode? I don't think I've heard of one here, only some stone damaged

Thats what the service engineer told me when I went over to the workshop. A batch had been badly coated and would be replaced under warranty.

Just passing on what was told.

But then how many people get on the floor and look carefully at their car or jack it up and use a mirror for inspection from the front on a nearly new car?

I was told the same when mine was replaced on warranty last month, car just under 2 years old. No argument about warranty, job done in a day with courtesy car provided. Carrs Skoda, lndian Queens, Cornwall and I didn't buy from them, used drive the deal.

Ermm, I do. Sort of old fashioned thing called preventative maintenance. My son never checks anything, probably a generation thing
