instrument warning lights problem

Featured Replies

have a fabia classic 8v 1.4mpi 02 plate.

coolant temp light flashes and now, oil light comes on when revving engine,

all levels are at max. oil level never alters, coolant level can be ok for several days then suddenly goes down, empting expansion tank, no leak anywhere, then level is fine again for several days.

had pressure test done for cylinder head gasket, past ok.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Oil light is likely the oil pressure switch, if you unplug it and the plug is oily, that's your confirmation.  Coolant loss is more difficult, they like to leak from the fan switch on the radiator or the radiator itself.  If it's got the correct coolant in it, it'll leave a pink residue where it's been leaking from.  It may be best to get a dye test done for combustion gasses in the coolant.

thanks will try this.

can you do a dye test yourself?

The only problem with the combustion test is usually the coolant goes into the cylinders and not exhaust into the cooling system

But if the level is dropping and no external leaks its a good bet the head gasket has gone.

is a combustion test the same as the garage did to test the head gasket, a pressure test?

No. A combustion test is a fluid that is added to tester on the header tank. It reacts with exhaust gases.

can anyone tell me where the oil temp sensor/switch is on the 1.4 ohv engine?

Haynes tell you for every engine but this one.

thanks

Next to the oil filter on the engine block.  It has a single wire connection to it, there is a cam sensor next to it which has a 2 or 3 wire plug.
