Service time coming up, a few questions

Featured Replies

So my octy is getting close to service time, and since i work in a company that is one of the bigger car part suppliers and has it's own workshops i'm thinking of getting it done there. My main question is what brands would you lot suggest i pick.

Here is the list:

  • SWAG - filters, oils, and random suspension and mechanical bits and pieces
  • VIX - filters
  • BOSCH - filters, electrical bits and pieces, wiper blades
  • TEXTAR - brakes, brake oils
  • AKRON - random hoses and clutch cables
  • RUVILLE - belt tensioners, water pumps etc.
  • CONTITECH - cambelts, cambelt kits with pumps and tensioners
  • LEMFÖRDER - tensioners and random drivetrain bits
  • SHELL, CASTROL, ELF, TOTAL - oils
  • HEPU - water pumps
  • VALEO - clutches, brake pads, brake discs, random electric and mechanical bits and pieces

Think that's all i can remember atm of the top of my head. I know some of the stuff listed here does not go within normal services but i would like to know if anything out of those brands mentioned above is half decent. I done some math and by the looks of it if i manage to get everything covered in the company i could end up having it done in about half the price. Any input is welcome.  :wonder:

Bosch for fuel filters and most fuel and air flow related products. lemforder for suspension components as these are std oem used companies on vag cars. Use recommended oils for your car if any of the shell, castrol are 5w30 or 10w40 then they will be ok. Valeo are good for clutches.

Cam belts stick to OEM or Gates. Brakes I would stick to OEM as well, unless you want to uprate.

Contitech are good for belts.

Oil - pickup some quantum 5w30

Fiters - vag only

Cambelt - gates timing belt kit

Bosch plugs only

You can get all this cheap at VWspares. I got oil and filters, + aux belt and pullys for £104

I got the gates timing belt kit and water pump with metal impeller for £120 at my local motor factors
