where is all the storage?

Featured Replies

Hi all

I recently purchased an Octavia MK11 FL on 12 plate. It was in the dealers having the radio upgraded and was given a brand new Octavia 105bhp tdi for the day.

Not very impressed :(

The cabin seems to have lost all the storage/cubby holes of the previous model.

Sorry but I must say I was very happy to give the keys back, thought it was far too sparse and boring, even the key is horrid and has no weight to it, the dash is also like something from the 70's with the sqeezable rubber, sorry not my cup of tea ( not sour grapes as could have had a decent spec brand new model for the money I spent on the FL, if I had wanted to).

Anyone else got an older model feel there is something missing on the new model, or is it just me?

I owned a mk2 octy VRS for a couple of years and I personally think that the new car ups its game in every area. I'd own one with no reservations. :) Whilst the 1.6 can feel a little lacking in outright oomph at higher speeds, I much prefer the feel of the new chassis and the more refined/planted feel at cruising speeds. To me, it's simply more accomplished. :)

Seems plenty to me ????

Yeah, I have to say the more I look at it the more I want to keep my MKII. There's quite a lot of cost cutting of real practical features for fancy electronic gadgets. Little quality of life details that I keep finding the more i look at it, just as you say. Add to that the missing right foot rest, lack of covers on the boot storage compartments, handbrake on the wrong side etc.

I think cubby holes depend on spec

Funnily enough I noticed the lack of demisting air ducts into the front doors and thought... cost cutting.

Reality check here surely, there is more than enough space for most people, how much space do you want to put clutter in ??? You can put 1.5L bottles in the door bins, stuff under the seat, stuff in the centre armrest, stuff behind your seats, oh and a 590L boot.............for goodness sake if you want more than that then clearly you need to be thinking of getting a different car, or stop cramming your car full of unnecessary crap !

If space over and above the Octy 3 is that much of a priority then there must be better cars for transporting stuff, simply stop criticising and go try sommat else which has ?? You might even find it quite liberating to try and leave some stuff at home and not find it polluting the inside of your car ??

Enjoy it for what it is, a nice car, not a cluttermobile.

(tin hat on but don't care)

Well, it is a big deal. I dont carry crap, but I do like that the pump, first aid kit, tow rope, jumper cables and straps for attaching things to the roof bars are currently neatly stored away in the boot side doors instead of littering the boot. For goodness sake, looking at the configurator you don't even get a cover for the boot by default on the new 4x4! The spec of the new 4x4 is massively down from what my current one has and putting all the bits back brings the price close to the more attractive to me superb 4x4. Or at least did until they axed all but the 170 DSG.

And for goodness sake all the cubby holes i.e top of dash, corners of the seats, is a huge reason I bought as new as I could on the old model. So it was such a big deal to me!

I was asking if it was only me that thought the useable cubby holes and storage compartments seemed less in the new model.

As we progress in car design Ice thought storage/cubbys etc would have been there not taken away.

The rubber type dash is just my personal hate, it is just so backwards IMHO after all these modern materials and carbon effect easy wipe clean plastics rubber just seems backward but it is probably a major sound proofing feature.

When I handed the keys back the salesman said bet you wish you went for one of these now?

I genuinely said "No" I prefer mine as it is too minimalist and he said, actually I'm not the first to mention it but look at all the gadgets you get?? I carried on back to my car.

What do people put in the seat corners?

Only one I will miss is the big one in the middle of the dash, it was a perfect size to rest an iPad, and I had a charger point placed in there aftermarket

Well, I will have to defend the Octavia 3 here, as regardless of the storage space and the lack of some vents and "rubber type dash" (just like in my previous 2008 merc c class  ), the Octavia 3 is a huge leap forward in my opinion compared to Mk2, which I have driven and happily handed back the keys as it was just so mediocre in every way!!! Each to there own though, if its not for you.

Me too, only I use a 7" Galaxy Tab with TomTom on it, had a USB socket fitted in there from day one (new). Way better than an OEM in-dash solution, no trailing cables either and no worries about it being stolen and ending up in Luthiania then bought by a Briskodian ;)

I actually prefer the cleaner lines of the dash on the Mk3. I had a FL mark 2 and on seeing the Mk3 thought the dash was a great improvement. I have found no lack of storage space for my needs.

If people want to store their "multiple useful/non useful possessions" (ahem) and the Octy 3 does not have the van dimensions required then just go and look at something that does ?? Cant understand coming on here to moan its not got enough space............then DONT buy one !

Its not rocket science, every car is some sort of compromise otherwise we would all be driving luxurious vans with lots of seats and gadgets and storage bins everywhere for everyones....erm...possessions.

Personally I leave my crap out of the car and keep essential things only.

Hey ho

As a q (I'm on the mobile version so can't see) is the op comparing model against model between the 2? Personaly I don't use many of the hidy holes on my mkII and suspect many owners don't either so it may be an issue for the op which is fair enough but for tge rest of us no big deal? my mkII dash is soft feel too so the new dash wouldn't bother me. If you want more space buy a wardrobe .......LOL

The only storage I miss from my MkII FL is the storage on the top of the dash. I found it very handy.

I have posted previously that I have not managed to put my phone cradle back, but as I will be getitng a new phone in a couple of months I am going to wait.

with regards to the boot, I cannot compare as I have come from an L&K estate which had variable boot, and yes, it was all tiday as I had covers on the side storage, but to be hoenst, at the moment, my boot seems tidy anyway.

Where did you find the info on the 4x4?. I can't find anything

It's an engine choice on the SE spec.

Use the online configurator on the Skoda UK website.

Phone sometimes, and glasses too (even though the glasses storage in the roof does a very good job).

I would certainly miss the storage on top of the dash.  In my case sunglasses go in roof storage and 'standard' driving glasses in top of dash.

I've never used it as storage. Might have to start
