Anyone gone from Octy VRS 170 to Superb Estate 170?

Featured Replies

Thinking of combining both our Octy 2.0 CR VRS and the Furby 1.9 VRS into a Superb 170 DSG Estate.

Anyone own an Octy 170 before their Superb Estate?

I had an Occy L&K 140 dsg with sports suspension before Superb 170 dsg Combi.

The Occy was more nimble across country but love the Superb. Goes if you need to but more relaxed cruiser and loads more space and toys!!

Looking for a more relaxed ride and less tyre noise than from my Octy VRS. I am also thinking of a Superb. As it is used mainly for motorway trips, would the 1.6 fit the bill? I drive within speed limits and fancy the tax, insurance and running cost benefits connected with the smaller engine. On the other hand, I don't want something that is totally gutless.

Any thoughts from owners?

I'll get my critics for this one but this is the opionion of the cabbies I know using 1.6 TDi's

Gutless but ok for urban use,

This is the opinion of the indy mechanic who keeps them on the road

Don't touch due to being problematic,

Now I know people will arrive and say different and it's up to you basically as it's your money, this is what I've been told of them and they are all in Octavia's, we have a rule of thumb and that is basically nothing under 2.0 in mid sized cars, you can buck the trend with 1.9's but derv engines any smaller aren't man enough,

This has been proven as well, the Pug 1.6 HDi is a bag of issues (this is the engine you will get if you buy any Volvo eDrive car btw) and remember these engines aren't what the car maker would choose they are what the eurobods are enforcing on the car firms and imo they are designed to just about get to the end of a fleet lease agreement (again I'll get shot down for that but hey ho) so basically you could get one that behaves but I'd plumb for the larger engines still as the power to weight issue also comes into play regarding the fuel economy, hth.

I went from a octy Vrs CR DSG to my Greenline and haven't looked back. Although I was getting 47 mpg from her it was still costing loads in fuel. I also do motorway and A roads for the majority and I also stick to speed limits, sometimes less. Recently ive been achieving 70+ mpg on my commute. The superb is such a great car to drive in a relaxed manner. With regards to performance, the 1.6 is never gonna fill your loins with Vrs ecstasy, but its certainly capable of shifting. Its not gutless and can easily pull of overtakes on country lanes.

I've done 17000 miles in mine now and the only problem I had was some carpet underlay had found it's way into the fan blower!

In summary, for £140 tax reduction, £ 150 insurance reduction, cheaper tyres and a lot smaller fuel bill and softer more relaxed drive its definitely worth the slight loss of performance.

Take one for a test drive, you may be surprised.

Went from hatch vrs to twindoor. Would have liked the estate but they had no offers except petrol.

I am glad to hear the above, about to do the same going from a Octavia VRS Cr manual estate to a Greenline estate for all of the same reasons.  I like the Vrs,but the hard ride and more work miles are not so compatiable, to be honest a little more luxury and more toys will more than make up for the speed.

Thanks boys for your considered responses.

As you say, test drive it will be then.

Had a very brief test drive in a 170 DSG Elegance yesterday while the Octy was in for some warranty work.

SWMBO wasn't convinced on the DSG prior to the drive but soon took to it. When a few things pan out later in the year we will find a dealer that can offer an extended test drive and possibly try the 140 and 170 back to back.

Cheers
