Not wheel bearing noise!

Featured Replies

I have a major problem with my Fabia 1.9 tdi which has so far defied diagnosis.

Took the car in to my dealer with suspected wheel bearing noise. It's quite a severe droning/drumming noise/vibration which eminates from one or both front wheels. The noise is road speed related - perhaps worst at low speed (25mph) -settling to a muffled hum at speed. It's the same whether accelerating, cruising or coasting (inc declutched) and cornering makes very little difference.

Dealers said it was a front wheel bearing - they'd spin it up on the ramps to identify which side.

They replaced the O/S front but said that only revealed noise in the N/S!

They then replaced the N/S.

The noise persists!

They then said, in addition to the two front brngs, the N/S front wheel was buckled - causing the noise.

I put on the spare - no difference! Still that droning! (also had the wheel checked at a tyre outlet - its not buckled and its balanced!)

The dealer obviously hasn't got a clue and is just feeding me a load of b*****ks to try and cover his back.

Incidently, the car's out of warrenty and this trial and error approach is costing me a fortune.

I've a lot more issues with this particular dealer including a full inspection service which blatantly wasn't - service manager has admitted this!

The car's back with them now, but any ideas would be appreciated as my

Have you swapped both front wheels to the back?

No, trusted the dealer's judgement and had a cash haemorage!

Would hope that they may try that tomorrow - or is too much like common sense?

Change dealer - do it...

Yes do this as it can be tyres that make the noise.

Cheep option.

Try some new tyres, this made my 01 Xreg a lot quieter on the road, i changed my old michelins for a new set of similar michelins.
