Looks like the folks over on the UP! forums have been looking into remapping their UP!'s

 

According to the Thread, Vtune in Leeds can remap:

 

60BHP to 75BHP

 

or 75BHP to 80BHP and 95NM to 112NM

 

For £279 I think it would be quite good for those with the Citigo Sport  or the Standard 60BHP engine given its cheaper to buy in the first place.

Supposedly they can remap the TriCore ECU and replace the anti-tamper bolts so no one will know ;)

 

So who is up for trying it? haha

Maybe worth waiting to have the turbo conversion from the UP GT :D

 

How come the 75ps version goes up to 80ps, while the 60ps only goes to 75ps?

I thought they were the same engine?

Not sure to be honest. I was thinking the same. I guess its to give the user the option to have the 75PS performance at a lower price.

There is another thread on here with another mapper offering the 80ps upgrade to either engine - and various posts around here have confirmed in the past it is indeed the same engine. Someone else has mentioned longer gearing on the greentech models, which are the ones with the 75ps engine.

The way I read it is that they started with the 75 map and got some gains out of it, and are now offering it for both the 60 and 75 cars... A citigo sport with 80 bhp and more mid range sounds good to me.

The torque increase sounds nice.

I am confused. How can remapping a car change its horse power? Like what has the PID got to do with the engine?

By "remapping" we mean reprogramming the cars Engine Control Unit (ECU) which can include adjusting the amount of fuel injected into the engine. Means more bang, means more power.

 

Not remapping as in changing the maps on the PID :p

Usually means using more fuel as well. Why would you want to do that on a small engined car like the Citigo, after all most buy it for the economy.

 

Did the remap thing with a previous diesel engined car I owned, despite what everyone said it did go like stink, but did drink a heck of a lot more fuel.

Sometimes tweaks to the ignition timing can increase the torque, in normal driving the engine should be burning more efficiently and can give better economy... On the other hand if you use the new-found power it will burn more fuel but at the time you will be grinning like a loon and giving not a single thought towards economy.

 

 

That's how I was when I put the race map on the bike, smoother, faster, much better to ride... Fuel light already :blush:  But now I'm used to it the bike gets the same or slightly more tank range than it did before.

Remap doesn't always mean using more fuel. My mk1 fabia was remapped and even driven normally used less than before remap. However give it the old beans and that's a different story.

Now would I remap my citigo? Depends on who's doing the mapping and how. If it's a ecu out job then no way, if by obd then it might be tempting.

Had a stage 1 map to 250bhp plus on Megane RS from rs tuning in Leeds, and got slightly better economy into the bargain. The only thing stopping me with the Citigo is losing the warranty.

I would like to see a proper graph of the original versus the modified power and torque curves, peak figures are good for banter and pub chat but mid range driveability is what makes a real world difference...

Not sure how much pub chat 15 or so brake would generate tbh, but you're dead right about the driveability in the mid-range. I suspect a lot of the Citigo's abilities are down to the gearing perfectly matching the torque curve and the car's light weight. I feel there is very little from the engine revs to tell me the difference between 3rd and 5th, and its nice to drop down and have that tiny little bit more responsiveness in the lower gear.

I had no other incentive to swap the vRS other than economy, and to be honest the trip computer on the pid has turned me into a budding hypermiler.

I found this Dyno readout on the UP! Forums, comparing the two standard engines

The dotted line is the 60PS engine, the other is the 75PS. Both standard engines.

 

Looks like the Dyno is over reading Torque by about 15Nm & power by 10BHP and the 75PS readings are offset by 500RPM, i dont know anyone who has pushed a Citigo up passed 6500 RPM! . But as you can see theres not much difference between the two!

 

I did find on a different website a smoother curver, which i cant find right now, but i might post up later.

Yes the 75ps engine is better at high revs, but drive the motor the way most people drive it and the 60ps will be more powerful,

In all honesty, I can't see me ever going over 4500 revs, not the way this little gearbox is matched. There really is no difference between the two below that.
