Just a thought is it possible to utilise a digital camera as a car camera ? I've tried it but it stops recording after fifteen minutes is it possible to override this ?

They are basically the same, just with a different case and firmware, so it is possible. I know for a fact that some car cams can be used as cameras!!!! But where to find a firmware hack for a particular camera - not a clue.

our "Action Cam" which is a HDGhost, has the option to use as a DashCam - It will start recording, as soon as power is applied to USB, stop when it it removed and record on a loop. - I've never seen this option available on compact cameras tho...

With my Samsung camera it's got some sort of timer on it, so with no usage it will power down, (go to sleep) till you press a button.

If recording it will record to an internal memory or Micro/SD card, so again these will have limitations with length of time it will record.
