Cheers mate I haven't got round to pulling the fuse but I've got jump leads so I will jump start it in the morning off my Vectra.

And you may want to point the dealer to the battery drain fix for older Gateways. See here:

http://vwnavi.com/volkswagen-factory-fit-navigation-systems/rns-510-mfd3-navi-system/firmware/13672-unofficial-272x-software-swl-recovery-cd.html

PM me if you have any issues after your visit to the dealer.

Adam

Hi Adam,

Thanks for the post the car is now in my local dealer Ive had a telephone call to confirm they have uploaded an older firmware and they are currently in the process of updating the latest maps so fingers crossed everything will be ok.

Adam will correct me if I am wrong, but by 'older' and 'to avoid battery drain' also goes along with 'cant have 7-digit postcodes'.

Don't panic though.

Adam wlli point you in the direction of a suitable newer modified firmware that won't suffer from battery drain and will allow 7-digit postcodes (it might also wipe the maps though).

It could well be too old to give the improved functionality.

Let me know how it goes.

UPDATE.....

Ok went down to pick up the car and on the way I had a telephone call to say the older software version (2854) has been uploaded but they are concerned that the fan in the unit is still spinning. I said that if I've been using the unit for a while the fan will stay on for a bit to cool the unit down.

Anyway I got to Skoda and was advised that the service guys were doing an amperage test on the car to see how much was being drawn. It turns out they want to re-book the car in as the radio is drawing a lot of amperage and when they took the radio fuse out the amperage drain pretty much stopped. They have taken the fuse out and given it to me with a print out. He said they are also confused as the diagnostic reads :

Antenna 2 for Radio (Open Circuit Static)

They also said that the Antenna is not showing as connected??? The guy working on the car said he seems to remember something from years ago where they inserted a CD to stop the battery drain (I'm assuming this is pretty much the same as the fix for old can gateways download on the VW Navi link) At this point I'm relieved that my battery drain has possibly stopped as I need the car because of the baby on the way but as for the unit my mind is cooked :wall:  lol.

So.....the bottom line is I've got to book my car in for another day but I have advised them I will send them the link to the VW Navi page.

The amperage draw will obviously drop if they pull the fuse!! and I guess its why its open circuit too. Also I'm not even sure I have heard of 2854 firmware, but at least they are acting on all this. .

Yeah that's what I thought I just hope they can get it fixed or I'm going to have to look at other options..

As kb said, it is sortable. Perhaps if they fail you can ask them to supply the map disc for a day or two and then reinstall yourself. Having the map disc means you can start from scratch.

I see you are in South Wales. If near Newport/Cardiff where I live/work, happy to meet up so you can borrow my firmware disc.

Tbh Adam that would be great, I'm based in Swansea so it's not far for me to travel at all. If I have no luck with the dealer I will let you know. I don't think they will be too happy in me borrowing the map disc but if you don't ask you don't get.

Antenna 2 open circuit will be down to the lack of a second factory fitted aerial in an '07 Octavia.

As there is only one aerial but two inputs, one input is redundant and throws an 'open circuit' fault.

The least they can do for the agro they have caused is let you update to a suitable firmware and then instal the latest maps for you.

After all, you paid for it...

Ahhh I see, that is why this warning is being flagged. I think they are under the impression that the aerial is not connected when seeing this warning message.

Yeah I know, maybe they will. I cant see it happening to be honest but I will definitely ask.

There are two inputs: one is not connected (Antenna 2) but the other is (Antenna 1).

If neither were connected there would be no radio signal.

Think of this as preparation for having a baby! Get the stress out of the system now and enjoy the birth as only a bloke can!!!

I see, I will point this out to Skoda when I speak to them next

Ha ha yeah true point that about the birth, funnily enough I said a similar thing to my wife last night about getting the bad luck out of the way.

Hello,

Latest update on my Sat Nav Saga. I phoned my local dealer today and the car is booked in for next Monday.  They have said they are going to get in touch with Skoda Technical to try and resolve the issue, they need as much documentation that I have for the Unit as they need to establish how old the unit is.  I've advised them all I have is a receipt for when it was installed but no serial number's, Firmware Versions etc are stated on it.

So hopefully this time next week all will be sorted...........hopefully.

The dealer should easily be able to see what the numbers are in the unit by connecting it up to their system.  They should be able to sort it out, they will also be able to find out the revision of can gateway fitted, by fitting a newer one compatible with the later firmware then that will give you the updated firmware and maps without the battery drain issue.

Hi all,

Ok car went in this morning I had a phone call this afternoon saying they have hit a wall with this one and are unable to assist any further.  They E-Mailed Skoda Technical and they're response was they have heard of the battery drain but they suggest the old unit goes back into the car.  As they have put an older firmware back in on my last visit i've put the radio fuse back in and will monitor it over the next hour or so to see if it's heavily draining the battery.

However they have agreed to supply me a copy of the maps disc, adamal If the battery is still draining if you don't mind letting me borrow your firmware disc that will be fantastic.

Sure mate, not a problem.
