V5 shows incorrect trim level

Featured Replies

I bought my Elegance TDI new at the end of April. The V5 arrived and I filed it. My insurance is now due and I have been getting online quotes. When I put the registration number in I am told that it is a Rapid Elegance Greentech TDI. I checked my V5 and it does have the car down as a Greentech. However the emissions are correct as 114g/km rather than the 106km/h for the Greentech.

What should I do? My current policy has the correct trim level as when I gave them the registration number they couldn't find the details because they hadn't made it to the DVLA computer. I haven't had my renewal in yet to check that for next year although I suspect I will get a cheaper deal elsewhere.

Thanks,

Paul

I had a Golf GTi, it was a five door but on the log book it was a three door, it stayed like this for years as I didn't change it.

In your case maybe mention it to the dealer as they registered the car.

I'd definitely mention it to the dealer first, I should imagine that it's possible to amend errors on a V5C, especially within just a few months of first registration. I could be wrong though :/

Dealer says it shouldn't matter as the tax band is correct. I can amend the insurance quotes to manually select the correct variant.

I might try and contact DVLA.

I'd want it to be correct personally, if nothing else as and when you sell it any potential buyers would wonder why the official paperwork says it's a Greentech yet clearly it isn't :S

Definitely contact the DVLA, they may be able to correct the Model info and send you out a new certificate - I just had a quick scan of mine and I didn't see anywhere that you can correct the bad model name yourself in section 7 to post back to them :(

Found a link on DVLA web site which sent me an email with the following details

changes on Section 7 and sign and date the declaration box (section 8). For changes not listed in section 7 you will need to underline the vehicle details in section 4, writing the new information next to them. You must also produce a covering letter explaining the error. If the chassis number is incorrect, please provide an original photograph or ‘rubbing’ of the chassis plate with your document.

If the changes do not affect your vehicle tax, then send the V5C and any additional documentation to:

DVLA

Swansea

SA99 1BA

If the changes affect the amount of vehicle tax you pay, you will need to apply to your nearest DVLA Local Office as you may have to exchange your tax disc.

In both cases, you will need to include the V5C and any additional documentation with your application.

A new Registration Certificate V5C should arrive within 4 weeks.

Just a word of warning - please photocopy any documents you send off to DVLA as they have a nasty habit of losing them. It then becomes an absolute pain trying to get replacements.

Also send them recorded delivery, then you at least have a record of delivery to them.
