Coilovers again..... sorry.... (V-Maxx or Weitec)

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

Sorry to bore you with another ‘which coilover’ thread, but I’m in the market for a set within the next couple of weeks as my insurance is finally at a reasonable level with them declared.

The budget I’ve got is about £600, and the two pairs I’ve summed it down to are the Weitec Hicon GT, and the V-Maxx kit (ones with no adjustable damping).

I realise the V-Maxx kit is over £200 cheaper, which by going by the “you get what you pay for” quote would typically eliminate them from my choice.
The only reason I’m still umm’ing and ahh’ing over them though is because I have all the work on my car done @ Unit 18, and Ali there has been seriously impressed with the V-Maxx kits and how they perform now that they are being manufactured in Europe.

I’ve also asked Damian @ DPM the same question, and his preference would be the Weitecs, so you can probably see why I’m a little stuck about which kit to go for; so I thought I’d post here to see if anyone has had any experience with both sets?

Any advice is appreciated :)

Thanks

Ryan

Weitecs gets the vote from me, a lot of people run them with no issues and are supposed to be good for the money.

I ran the vmaxx's when they first came available in 2007 for the fabia vrs!

I got them at an entry price of £250 lol!

They were good for the money at the time

Better than your likes of fk ak's / joms etc

They aren't as good as the weitecs obviously but they will be fine, all depends what you want, the weitecs will be more forgiving on your fillings but not on your bank balance

I've got a mate who recently got v-maxx coilovers. I'm pretty impressed, damper adjustable ride well and were a good price. I'd happily run them tbh.

Also worth noting just how picky Alistair is a Unit 18 with the quality of stuff so for him to say something is good speaks volumes to me.

Thanks for the replies chaps! :)

And yes Matt, that's exactly why i'm torn between the two sets because I know Ali isn't easily impressed, and he seemed really impressed with the V-Maxx's!

I live out in the sticks in north Northamptonshire, so I think it's all going to have to come down to which provides the comfiest ride with having to contend with the back roads.

I suppose my question is, does anyone know if the £200 extra spent on the Weitecs is going to give me the more 'spine friendly' ride?

I have the weitec's and i'm thoughly impressed by the ride quality. Compared to the mk1 which has koni coilovers, the weitec's are night and day you only really notice them when you're driving over pot holes.

I can't comment on the v-maxx's but you won't be disapointed by the weitec's great bit of kit.

Weitecs all the way, the hicon GT kit is what I've just fitted to my vrs and they're excellent I'd deffo recommend them and as DPM are selling them £200 cheaper than anywhere else it's a no brainer !
