Hi im a newby on this site and not sure how to post a question to a teche so please be gentle with me.I have a skoda octavia 2001 which has a problem with the air compressor I have read numerous reasons for this but have still not come up with the solution.I have had the gas checked by three seperate garages kwik fit tried to gas it but said there might be a blockage, a local garage also checked it and said they suspected the air compressor was the problem and required a new one, mobile air con guy checked the gas and also suspected the compressor was dead I have done some research to investigate this and have established there is only 6 volts at the plug to the compressor, so it wont pull in the clutch anyway,The strange thing is there is 6 volts there "all the time" even with the ignition off, so i carnt understand why its not flattening the battery. I have checked the voltage at the pressure switch and it has a 12volt supply there, however the compressor still reads 6 volts at the plug even with the pressure switch disconnected, so the supply must be coming from somewhere else ? can anyone shed any light on why I only have 6 volts a the compressor plug (please note the rad fans are both working when air con is switched on in slow and go off when the air con is switched off which rules out the (fcm)resistor failure that has been previously suspected.I have also checked the coil in the compressor and have continuity , I have also connected it to a direct 12volt supply from the battery and measured the amps taken to 3.6 ish amps although I carnt hear it engaging the clutch still.so assuming the compressor is faulty I still have the 6v supply problem so I am reluctant to buy a new compressor until I can get the 12 volt back to supply it.can anyone please help

Welcome to Briskoda and sorry to hear about your air con problems. The Octavia I forum would have been a more appropriate place to post this to attract attention but hopefully one of the Briskoda Staff will move it there for you.
