Maf clean?

Featured Replies

I am going to clean my throttle body this week, car is jerky at low revs, gets better when warm but still does it so from reading some threads a throttle body clean seems like the first step. I have seen people say they clean the maf or maf sensor, is this easy and is there anything I should watch out for? Thanks, only 3 weeks in to this game so learning the ropes!

Isopropal (Maplins, RS spares etc) in a freezer bag is the safest way. Remove the MAF probe from the MAF housing ( 2 security torx screws) & give a it good soaking & shake it when immersed in the bag. Do not go sticking cotton buds in to clean it as you'll probably break the ceramic sensor.

I'd also be checking the coolant temp sensor as it's a very common failure on VAG cars, which causes rough running due to incorrect fueling. If you have the old black CTS fitted I'd advise you to change it regardless to the revised green type. Genuine VAG CTS only as aftermarket/ebay CTS's rarely work properly.
