OK less overtakes and not hoofing it on the bypass's but MPG increase for my usual daily commute was not expected.

Mine too! My roofbox costs at least 15% on fuel economy on my car.

 

I suppose you are subconsciously driving more gently than usual, so as not to spew the contents over the motorway!

True test is today, roof box was empty before it was just fitted ready for a camping trip!

I was driving more sedately so the box stayed attached / testing new roof rack fittings etc.

Trip to Wales fully laden is not going to get my MPG up! No matter how I drive.
