Certain stipulations I would like in my insurance

Featured Replies

it is many years since I used a broker, as I usually just ring round the companies direct. But it occurred to me that I might be able to make a bit more of a bespoke insurance with some companies'brokers. Basically the main thing I want is a guarantee that any repair of any nature to my car, would be done at a Mercedes franchised dealership. Not just a specialist and certainly not any other body shop but the MB ones.

Anyone have any recommendations as to where I should start my search for this Holy grail of reasonably priced, but slightly bespoke insurance?

Have you called MB and checked that they actually have an in-house bodyshop? Most dealerships outsource that kind of work.

I'm currently with MB insurance and had the misfortune (their service was excellent I should add) to use their in-house body shop last year after being hit by a van driver (who then sped off!!!!). I know my local MB has an excellent bodyshop, but don't know about others. I also want only MB parts to be used if a repair is necessary (sadly I doubt my windscreen cover will provide this no matter what :( )

Try us at Chris Knott Insurance. You can choose the body shop that does the repairs. That may be a Merc specialist or may even be the local garage that you know and trust. The choice is yours if you want it.

We have this facility but sometimes it can carry a slightly higher excess, feel free to get in touch to  discuss.

As above not every dealer will have their own body shop. Best most people can hope for is an approved one that the manufacturer has inspected and trained staff on their cars.

Most manufacturers can help you identify approved body shops.

As I get my cars on a PCP, I just don't want any knock back if I choose to return the car to the manufacturer. This is of course assuming I have need to have a car repaired after a prang (fingers crossed of course)

Legally you can choose where the car is repaired.

The only problem is that you may need to pay an extra excess and it could take them longer to pay out if you dont go to thier approved repairer.

You may also have to pay extra for genuine parts if they can use an alternative or repair the item but this will be in your policy wording.

If in doubt then go through the manufacturers own insurance as most of them do thier own these dys.

I currently do go through Merc insurance, but it is pretty steep (can't remember who the underwriters are though)

Just had my renewal from Hastings. They are very clear I can take the car anywhere for repair.

Ultimately I managed to haggle down MB insurance a couple of hundred quid! Surprised me in a nice way for once :)
