yes the oil pressure is fine

Is this a Mk1?

What year is it?

It's very common for the oil pickup in the sump to become blocked/partially blocked.

Are you saying that you had an oil pressure gauge connected when the light came on?

What was the pressure reading?

2011,the oil pressure was checked by a skoda dealership and the pressure was ok.

Both topics found, moved to the correct section and merged.

Is this not covered under the 3 yr warranty?

  • Author

no it was a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty

It's a very simple circuit, so if the oil pressure is OK and wiring/sensor has been replaced, then the fault lies with the cluster.

I don't understand,the cluster of what?

The dash insert - the part that has speedo, warning lights, etc

  • Author

its £500 to have the dash taking out, what could it be if it isn't that?

  • Author

that's what the skoda dealership has quoted me.

The most likely cause is a blocked/partially blocked oil pickup in the sump. How many miles does it have?

Next on the list is a wiring problem.

It could be the cluster, but I doubt it.

it has 153000 miles, all the wiring has been replaced.

At that age, I'd check the oil pickup pipe in the sump.

ok,the car is only 2 years old but its a taxi hence the mileage.

has anybody any more ideas on my oil pressure light problem?

what about ECU? or wiring is an option on my opinion also.

Are you sure your new sensor is ok? Is a SH or a new one?

the wiring has been replaced, the sensor was replaced by a skoda dealership.

The ECU isn't involved.

The oil pressure switch shorts the signal wire to ground when the pressure is OK. The wire goes to the cluster. There is a wire colour change at an intermediate connector but that's it.

For the dealer's oil pressure test to mean anything in this case, they would have to take the measurement whilst the light was on and that isn't the standard test.

The pickup is essentially the same part as used on the Mk1.

Did you ever get this problem sorted,i've tried everything and the next step is the cluster

I had a similar problem with my 1.6TDI CR Octavia. It started at about 95k miles, the car was always serviced by the main dealer and had a new oil pressure sensor and switch to try to resolve the issue. The main dealer also completed a oil pressure test and told me there was nothing wrong with the engine. After 135k miles the engine started making terrible noises as the engine finally decided to give up the ghost. Needless to say the original skoda dealer has wiped his hands of it and I have managed to palm it off onto another skoda dealer.

As a previous response stated, the engine oil pressure test by the dealer will not pick it up unless the light comes on during the test. My light was coming on at 1500rpm, and even when I asked the main dealer to repeat the oil pressure test at that 1500rpm, they told me that they couldn't as the programmed revs were set out by the computer during the test.

My advice is to palm it your car off on skoda for another one, as it is evidentally a common fault that they are reluctant to recognise. Good luck.
