Help exhaust manifold leak on 04 vrs

Featured Replies

hi guys, ive noticed a blowing sound when cold and confirmed by feeling around drivers side of manifold when car was cold, can i just nip up the bolts on manifold to fix leak or does it need to come off? seems like its gonna be a pain or pricey at a garage

If it's only when it's cold it'll be the SAI (secondary air intake) housing that's leaking.

How much is a replacement manifold likely to cost?

Pick them up for about £20 to £30

Check that it's not the exhaust manifold to turbine housing gasket blowing first. Believe they are quite common.

I have a similar small blow there on cold start, that goes once warm. Bought a gasket and new bolts/washers but not got round to changing it yet. Tried the other day, but I couldn't get the manifold heat shield off without removing the TIP from the compressor housing (the small heat shield fastener fouls the TIP as you back it out). I didn't have the time to play, so gave up on the day.

Had these symptoms on my vrs and it was the above problem

Definatly coming from the manifold next to the block. Had a garage run emisions as mot is soon and it ace'd emission test, it has a custom down pipe with magnaflow 200cell cat and miltek system so at least it should get through mot next week
